At OpenLift, our core philosophy is to empower you, the lifter, with tools that provide control, transparency, and a clear path to your goals. We believe your fitness journey is unique, and your training app should reflect that. That's why we've been hard at work building a comprehensive program system that's not just a feature, but a cornerstone of how OpenLift will help you lift your limits.
What are OpenLift Intelligent Programs?
Imagine having a dedicated (and very smart) assistant for your workout plan. That's precisely what our new program feature offers. You can now enroll in expertly designed, multi-week ProgramPlans
directly within OpenLift. But this isn't just about following a list of workouts; it's about a dynamic, adaptive experience tailored to you.
Here’s a peek at what your new training partner can do:
1. Seamless Enrollment & Personalized Snapshots
Getting started is simple. Let's say our user, Sam, wants to build strength with a "3-Day Strength Builder" plan that spans 8 weeks.
- Sam picks the plan from our growing catalog.
- He tells OpenLift his preferred training days – perhaps Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
- Instantly, OpenLift creates a personalized "snapshot" of that entire plan just for Sam. This means his version of the program is locked in, insulated from any future changes to the master catalog plan. It’s his program now.
2. Your Calendar, Intelligently Populated
No more manually figuring out what workout comes next or when to do it!
- As soon as Sam enrolls, OpenLift's scheduling assistant looks at his preferences and the current date.
- It automatically populates his in-app calendar with specific workouts (e.g., "Strength Workout A," "Strength Workout B") on his chosen days for the upcoming weeks. Sam gets a clear view of his training roadmap.
- Each time Sam opens the app, the assistant ensures his schedule for the current and near-future weeks is up-to-date, generating new entries as needed based on his progress.
3. The Real Magic: Intelligent Catch-Up & User-Controlled Flexibility
This is where OpenLift truly adapts to real life:
- Smart Catch-Up: Life happens! If Sam has an exam and misses his Friday workout, OpenLift doesn't just let that progress stall. When he opens the app next Monday, the system will identify the missed "Workout X" and try to schedule it as a catch-up on his next available preferred day in the current calendar week. It prioritizes keeping him aligned with his program's intended content.
- NEW - You're in Control with "Skip Workout": We understand that sometimes a catch-up isn't ideal, or you simply want to move on. If Sam sees that "Workout X (Catch-Up)" scheduled and decides it's too much, he can now "Mark as Skipped."
- OpenLift acknowledges his choice.
- His program progression is updated as if "Workout X" was notionally completed (so he doesn't get stuck).
- The schedule then intelligently populates with the next workout from his logical plan sequence. This gives Sam the ultimate flexibility to manage his training load and momentum.
- Vacation Mode? No Problem: If Sam takes a two-week vacation after completing Week 3 of his plan, upon his return, OpenLift will intelligently schedule content from the start of Week 4 into the current calendar week, rather than trying to overwhelm him with all the missed sessions.
4. Starting Your Workout: The "Effective Workout" Engine
When it's time to train, OpenLift ensures you know exactly what to do, with targets tailored for that specific session:
- Sam selects his scheduled workout for the day.
- He hits "Start Workout."
- OpenLift instantly creates a
WorkoutHistoryEntry
(your digital logbook page), pre-filled with all the exercises for that session. - Crucially, the sets, reps, and rest targets for each exercise are calculated by our "Effective Workout" engine. This powerful system considers:
- The baseline targets from Sam's personal plan snapshot.
- Any specific exercise overrides or additions made by his coach (if applicable).
- Any weekly modifiers active for that particular week of his program (e.g., deload week, intensity week).
- Sam's own training focus overrides if he's customized his program's goals. This means every session is optimized based on the most current and relevant parameters for Sam.
5. Tracking Progress: Completion, Skipping, and Progression
- When Sam finishes a workout and saves it (or marks it skipped), OpenLift updates his
ProgramUserInstance
. - It tracks his
lastCompletedPwtOrderInWeek
(the last workout snapshot he finished or skipped in his current logical plan week). - If all workouts in a logical plan week are completed/skipped, his
currentPlanWeekNumber
automatically advances. - If he completes the entire program, his status updates to
COMPLETED_PLAN
. - This seamless progression ensures his schedule always reflects what's next.
6. Full Control: Manage Your Program, Your Way
OpenLift puts you in charge:
- Change Preferred Days: Life changes, and so can your workout days. Update them, and OpenLift replans your future schedule.
- Pause & Resume: Need a break? Pause your program. All future scheduled workouts are cleared. When you resume, the system intelligently picks up where you left off and rebuilds your schedule.
- End Program: Conquered your goals or need to switch focus? End your program at any time.
